Avoid Over Accessorizing

First let’s discuss the proper use of accessories. Accessories are meant to compliment an ensemble and typically act as a subtle finishing touch in most situations. On other occasions you may see what is called a “statement piece” where the ensemble calls for all the attention and focus to be on the accessory of choice, such as a chunky neckpiece. However, in any situation adding too many accessories to an ensemble is a crime! You can be tried and convicted in the Supreme Court of Fashion. So please pay attention and follow these tips when considering accessorizing.

Tip 1:

Think balance and make a choice. Let’s put the body in 3 sections or categories when considering accessorizing. The upper body consists of your head, ears and neck. The mid-section consists of the wrist, hands and waist. This section can also include body jewelry such as a belly ring or a body chain. And lastly the lower section, which basically includes your footwear and ankles…. and yes shoes matter!

When considering accessories, balance each section. For example… In the upper area only one part should be dominate. Therefore, if I decided to wear huge earrings, then my neckpiece is either extremely subtle or I don’t wear anything at all. And vice versa… if I decide to wear a chunky neckpiece then my earring selection would probably be a stud. The same rules apply to mid and lower sections.

Tip 2:

Less is more. This is an old saying but definitely true. It’s okay to keep it simple. You do not have to go crazy with your accessories.

Tip 3:

This tip comes from the talented and wonderful Coco Channel…and I quote “before you leave the house, look in the mirror and take one thing off.”

By all means, remember to be who you are! There are no real rules to fashion so if you love it, OWN IT! But if you get to a point where you’re just unsure, follow the tips I gave you.
