Avoid Becoming a Matchy Matchy Victim

It’s 2016 and fashion has definitely evolved over the decades into an eclectic clash of creativity. However, there will always be some type of judgment from peers – let’s face it, the world is one big runway.  Therefore, people who may lack a bit of confidence with their fashion choices can easily become “matchy matchy victims!” What is a matchy matchy victim? Let me explain… my definition of a matchy matchy victim is a person who feels as if they are not fashionably dressed unless colors are identical or in the same color family; and they don’t veer too far some the safe neutral colors – which typically dominates an entire ensemble. For example, we have all seen it… nude blouse, black skirt, black shoes and nude handbag (blank face). Or, you may see colors such as a purple pant paired with purple shoes (blank face). Now don’t get me wrong, I don’t feel like these matchy matchy victims are unfashionable, many can be considered well dressed and sensible. I just believe that an ensemble deserves a bit more flare sometimes.

Let’s go over a few more examples of some of the most common “matchy matchy” looks and how you can make a few adjustments and substitutes.

POP OF COLOR

Now these ladies look great in their all white ensambles and it’s definitely fashionable…but that’s not the point here. This would be the typical look for a matchy matchy vitcm because it’s extremely safe. This also includes the all black, all brown, all red, etc. ensambles…same color ensabmbles are all SAFE and very common for matchy matcy victims. However, a touch of color would add a bit of contrast and flare. I’m not telling you to ditch your “same color” ensamble, I’m simply suggesting you add a pop of color.

AVOID THE CHECKERBOARD LOOK

A yellow top, grey pant, yellow flats, silver jewelry and a grey hat is an ensemble I like to call the checkerboard look. The checkerboard ensemble consists of two colors that often alternate.

Matchy matchy victims also view the checkerboard look as safe. However, fashion is not about being safe. Women who are victims of the checkerboard look just need to mainly get away from matching their shoes to their tops/dresses…. they do not have to be the same colors, ladies. Finding a shoe with a complementary color or a neutral tone would be just fine.
